The sea trials were June 1, 2003 for one hour in the morning with 1 to 5 MPH and two hours in the afternoon with 8 mph steady. The morning was at the DMYC venue because of the light air and the afternoon was in the Forebay where the wind is steady and higher with long lay lines offered.
The boat is very well balanced and nimble with little helm needed for maneuvering. Very little helm is needed for a tack, it will do it almost with the jib trim. The boat was in good trim and sailed on her lines. Nothing could have been asked of the boat by performance.
The sails are PX75 with a full cut. The distortion at the foot round and at the tack of the main is because of curling of the material. This was present in all winds the whole day. This will be corrected by the sailmaker. The sail shape performed very well in the morning lighter air with excellent acceleration. However, attempts to flatten the shape around the lower "94" resulted in over bend wrinkles and little improvement from luffing in the upper parts. It is thought this sail material will perform well in the higher winds with a flatter cut.
The boat is race ready and the sails will be worked out in time.
