Rudder Linkage
Up Rudder Rudder Linkage

Last update March 4, 2003

The hook up of the rudder shaft to the servo is straight forward once all the parts are assembled. The tiller shown is custom made of Bronze with a stabilizing collar and locking cap screw. The arm for the servo was that which was shipped in the box. The linkage is the DuBro 259 heavy duty ball link with a 4-40 threaded connecting rod.

The linkage can be installed on either side. The preference here was only that the servo arm was more perpendicular as shown than on the other side. If not noted in the Electronics section and the mount is being designed and installed here, it would be nice to install the servo a bit further away from the rudder shaft. The ends of the ball links were cut here for a square fit to the rudder at the tiller.

Rudder deflection is personal and that shown here is approximant. More will be know when in the water. Servo buzz was noted on one side so the rudder will be removed to sand the fairing till it is turning free at full deflection. You know the drill.
